About Kenn Kaufman

Now a legend among naturalists, Kenn Kaufman burst onto the birding scene as a teenager in the 1970s, hitchhiking all over North America in pursuit of birds—an adventure later chronicled in his cult-classic book Kingbird Highway. After several years as a professional tour leader, taking birding groups to all seven continents, he transitioned to a career as a writer, illustrator, and editor. He has authored or coauthored fourteen books, including his own series of Kaufman Field Guides, and his paintings have been juried into prestigious wildlife art exhibitions. Since the 1980s, he has been an editor and consultant on birds for the National Audubon Society. Kenn is a Fellow of the American Ornithological Society, a recipient of the Eisenmann Medal from the Linnaean Society of New York, and the only person to have received the American Birding Association’s lifetime achievement award twice. He lives in Oak Harbor, Ohio, with his wife, Kimberly Kaufman, also a dedicated naturalist.
